Toro Flex-Force 60V Trimmer Line-Up — Complete Parts Compatibility Guide

Toro’s Flex-Force 60V battery platform has grown into a serious ecosystem — over 75 tools now share the same battery system, from string trimmers and edgers to the 60V TimeCutter 54-inch zero-turn mower. For homeowners who have bought into the platform, understanding which trimmer parts are interchangeable across models saves money and avoids ordering the wrong spool or head.

Here is a straightforward breakdown of battery compatibility, trimmer head fitment, and line specs across the Toro 60V string trimmer lineup.

The battery system: L135, L324, and L405

Every Flex-Force 60V tool uses the same battery interface. Toro currently offers three main battery sizes:

  • L135 — 2.5Ah, the lightest pack. Good for quick trimming sessions and keeping the tool weight down.
  • L324 — 6.0Ah, the mid-range option. This is the sweet spot for most homeowners who trim a typical suburban yard in one session.
  • L405 — 7.5Ah, the heavy-duty pack. Designed for extended runtime on demanding tools like the zero-turn mower, but works in any Flex-Force trimmer.

All three batteries are physically and electrically interchangeable across every Flex-Force 60V tool. If you bought an L405 for your mower, it slides right into your string trimmer. The only tradeoff is weight — the L405 is noticeably heavier than the L135, which matters during extended trimming.

Trimmer spool and head compatibility

Toro’s 60V string trimmers use a dual-line bump-feed head with pre-wound spools. The key specs to match when buying replacement spools:

  • Line diameter: 0.080” is standard across most Toro 60V trimmer models
  • Spool type: Toro uses a proprietary spool housing that is specific to their 60V trimmers — these are not the same as Toro’s older gas-powered or 20V spools
  • Head attachment: The bump-feed head threads onto the drive shaft. Replacement heads must match the thread size and arbor of the specific trimmer model

For the Toro 20V 12-inch Trimmer/Edger (model 51484), note that this tool is part of Toro’s separate 20V platform. The 20V trimmer uses different spools and a different head design than the 60V models. Parts between the 20V and 60V lines are not interchangeable.

What fits across 60V trimmer models

Within the Flex-Force 60V string trimmer family:

  • Pre-wound replacement spools are generally interchangeable between 60V models that use the same bump-feed head housing
  • Bump-feed head assemblies may differ between trimmer models if Toro changed the head design revision — check the model number stamped on the head housing before ordering
  • Line — If you prefer to wind your own, 0.080” round or twisted line works in most Toro 60V spool housings. Avoid going above 0.095” unless the head specifically supports it, as thicker line can jam the feed mechanism

Aftermarket spool options

Third-party replacement spools for Toro 60V trimmers are available and can save a few dollars per spool compared to OEM. When shopping aftermarket, verify:

  • The spool outer diameter matches the Toro head housing
  • The center hole and retaining tabs align with the Toro spring post
  • The pre-wound line is 0.080” and at least 20 feet per spool

Poorly made aftermarket spools tend to fail at the retaining tabs — they crack after a few bump-feeds, causing the spool to spin freely and stop advancing line. Mid-priced aftermarket spools with reinforced tabs are a better bet than the cheapest options.

What this means for replacement parts

The Flex-Force 60V system makes battery management simple — one battery works in 75+ tools. Trimmer-specific parts (spools, heads, line) require more attention to model numbers, but within the 60V trimmer family, most consumable parts are shared.

If you are stocking up on spools, confirm your trimmer model number first, then check our catalog for compatible Toro 60V replacement spools and bump-feed heads. Buying in multi-packs drops the cost per spool significantly, and having spares on hand means you are never stuck mid-job waiting on a delivery.
